Batak Singa
Sumatra, Lake Toba Region, Batak People
Wood
A classic example of a Sumatra Lake Toba "singa". The singa is the embodiment of a protective mythological bovine/snake being and is mounted on the sides of the Toba house. It proclaims the wealth and good health of the owner and is associated with victory feasts
Intricately and imaginatively carved to capture the essence of the singa, the piece is in excellent condition, its age and use indicated by sun bleaching and wear. A rare and powerful addition to any collection at a very fair price.
