Large Pre-War Ancestor Figure

Perferated nasal septum and ears indicate pre-WWII construction. This impression is reenforced by a lage, extant age crack. Highly decorated with cowry shell eyes, fiber, feathers, terra cotta paint in umber, tan, white, black and light reddish brown, this male figure is topped by two anthropomorphic birds, lizards and four miniature ancestor figures

Here is another very rare Papua New Guinea item that I am proud to make available. The care and art that was used to truly do honor to the dead is no longer practiced and not only have finished specimens rarely escaped the ravages of time, but they are seldom seen and even less frequently made available for acquisition.
