This imaginative and highly expressive mask, with cowry shells for eyes, hooked design and decorated with red pigmented tatoo markings and charcoal, follows in the tradition of ancestor spirit figurals for protection against evil spirits.

Size: 20 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches

Traditionally, masks are carved in memory of family ancestors. When the carving is completed it is believed to contain the ancestor's spirit. The spirit protects the family and thus is hung in the living quarters.
