King's Calabash
Tikar People in Bamum, Cameroon.
The king's calabash, or dynastic pillar, is used as a prestige piece to adorn the balcony of high ranking officials. The top depicts an ancestral male figure with slaves on the neck. The rounded body with encircling figurines symbolizes the social hierarchy of Bamum society. The up stretched arms of the figures in the base form a caryatid. Exquisite detail and strong original patina - a fantasic incredibly powerful and desirable museum quality pair with the Queen's Calabash.
